emma newlyn

Emma has practiced forms of meditation for most of her life, and was introduced to the physical practice of yoga as a teenager. After graduating from university with a degree in music performance, Emma took her first yoga teacher training course and has been teaching full-time ever since. She also works as a holistic therapist and writer for wellbeing magazines like Breathe, and blogs for sites such as Yoga Matters and Ekhart Yoga.

Emma is especially passionate about yoga philosophy and Ayurveda, and leads courses and workshops to help others bring these ancient practices into their modern lives. When she’s not teaching or writing, Emma spends as much time as she can in nature, which she feels is one of the most therapeutic and perspective-shifting practices there is. Emma loves sharing creatively sequenced flow yoga classes with a blend of different movement styles, as well as restorative practices accompanied by pranayama and meditation.

emily scott

Born and raised in Southern California, Emily discovered yoga in 2000 in a warehouse in Los Angeles with a hundred people crammed together mat-to-mat, and she’s been hooked ever since. Yoga has seen her through ten years in Corporate America, a professional dance career, motherhood (still in the trenches on that one!) and now she’s sharing what she’s learned and learning along the way. She’s constantly learning about the body, the breath, the spirit, how we move, why we move, and how it all relates... and this exploration fascinates her and keeps her moving, breathing, and trying to share her findings.

Teaching since 2014, she enjoys teaching a slow but strong vinyasa flow, mixed in with pranayama, restorative, and meditation. She’s passionate about using the breath as a tool to create change in the body and the mind, and she aims to create a space for people to improve their lives from the inside out.

She is the founder and owner of the The Movement.

 FAQs

Do I have to be ‘good’ at yoga? Do I have to be able to do certain poses?

No! Yoga is about so much more than ‘striking a pose.’ Many great yoga teachers cannot or do not do any fancy poses. In this training, you will learn about most of the commonly practiced poses in a yoga class, but also how to modify them to suit all abilities and teach them to your students effectively. We are passionate about making yoga accessible to all, and that starts with us, the teachers.

Do I have to become vegan or change my lifestyle?

No. The most important thing a yoga teacher can be is themselves. We don’t require anyone to change anything about themselves or their lifestyle.

What type of yoga will I learn to teach?

You will mainly learn to teach vinyasa flow, which is rooted in the Ashtanga tradition. However, you will be encouraged to explore all styles of yoga and how they provide a rich landscape for starting to develop an authentic teaching style in which you believe.
