Damian is a 39 year old single parent and office worker from Haywards Heath, West Sussex. He is also a 200-hour trained yoga teacher.

There was always an interest/curiosity in yoga. A friend took him to a local class at a community centre and it just fit (the inclusion of a substantial and celebrated lie down at the end of each class may have sealed the deal). Having continued attending the class once-twice a week for a year or so, his son was born and practice dwindled.Later, once the chaos of parenthood had subsided a little, he began practicing at a studio as many days as possible and the obsession was cemented. Hot yoga, yin yoga, yoga nidra, restorative yoga, vinyasa flow, hatha yoga from as many teachers as possible as often as he could.

From there embarking into teaching was an unknown but has brought challenge and fulfilment in unexpected and wonderful ways. To him yoga is not about being the stretchy-est, calmest, best at balancing or having a six pack. Nor is it necessarily about obtaining enlightenment or speaking Sanskrit (though all those things are great). As tremendous as it would be to manage to balance on your face in some gloriously photogenic way, perhaps the harder part is to be still and to be with yourself (even if just for a moment). On a personal level, his practice has helped him to improve and maintain his physical health more than anything else he’s encountered and has been profound in its positive effect on his state of mind. In a very real way he feels that yoga saved his life.

Damian aims to bring his joy of yoga to his classes. In a class with Damien, you can expect breath work, moving postures, balancing, core work, grounding postures and (perhaps most importantly) stillness. There is also the possibility he’ll sometimes get lefts confused from rights and sometimes call a hand a foot.
